The gaming community in Scotland has received a monumental boost with the official launch of Scottish Esports, a Community Interest Company (CIC) established as the national body for esports in the country. This milestone marks a new chapter for competitive gaming in Scotland, focusing on supporting players, teams, and the wider gaming community while elevating esports to a recognized and celebrated level.

A Vision for Growth

Scottish Esports has ambitious goals to foster collaboration, nurture talent, and raise the profile of esports across Scotland. Whether you're a casual gamer, a competitive player, or a business interested in the gaming sector, the organization is committed to creating opportunities for everyone involved.

Gaming, a pastime enjoyed by people of all ages, is on the rise globally, yet in Scotland, it has long lacked the infrastructure and recognition it deserves. Scottish Esports aims to bridge that gap by building inclusive environments and offering the tools and support necessary to grow a sustainable esports ecosystem.

Community at the Core

Mark McCready, CEO of Scottish Esports, emphasized the organization's commitment to the gaming community:

“We’re not only building a strong and passionate foundation for competitive video gaming in Scotland – we’re building a community. By delivering national-scale stability, we’re committed to creating a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space where players and teams of all levels can thrive and feel supported. It’s an exciting time for us all to inspire the next generation to learn and explore esports in a more encouraging and positive environment.”

Volunteers will play a pivotal role in this vision, supporting the development of esports at the grassroots level through initiatives like weekly gaming clubs and international competitions.

A Multi-Faceted Approach

To achieve its mission, Scottish Esports plans to:

  • Host in-person events and workshops to engage players and provide hands-on learning experiences.

  • Develop educational resources to inform and inspire the community about the potential of esports.

  • Launch online initiatives that foster connectivity and growth within the gaming scene.

  • Establish a national esports club framework to provide consistent opportunities for competition.

  • Manage national teams, ensuring Scotland is well-represented at international esports competitions.

These initiatives will be bolstered by collaborations with businesses, educational institutions, and key industry stakeholders to create impactful opportunities in the growing esports sector.

A Sustainable Future

By working closely with existing esports organizations and national bodies in sports and digital industries, Scottish Esports is positioning itself as a leader in the development of a sustainable esports industry. The aim is to put Scotland on the map as a hub for competitive gaming, not just in the UK but globally.

As esports continues to grow as a major cultural and economic force, the launch of Scottish Esports is a pivotal step in ensuring Scotland plays an active and prominent role in shaping the future of this dynamic industry.
